3 Indian cricketers likely to be the costliest in IPL 2025 auction

After Mitchell Starc's 20 crore-plus deal in IPL 2023, can we see Indian players also receiving that amount? If so, which Indian players might fetch that sum in the IPL 2025 mega auction?

Rs. 24.75 crores, Rs.17 crores these numbers are all too familiar to us when we watch the IPL auction. We’ve seen many players secure fair deals due to their cricket expertise. With the IPL 2025 mega auction currently being a hot topic of discussion, there’s anticipation that many big players will be up for grabs. While the league is sure to promote the best young talents, there will also be a few senior players who are expected to receive massive paychecks. But who are these top-notch players likely to earn unbelievable amounts from IPL franchises? Let’s take a look.

Indian cricketers predicted to be the top earners in IPL 2025 auction

KL Rahul

With more than 100 matches, classical talent, and on top of that, arguably one of the batters with 4,000 runs in the IPL, the former Punjab Kings captain now faces the possibility that his current team, LSG, might give him the former tag as well. It’s slowly but steadily coming to light that he may not be retained. Rahul, who joined LSG in 2022 as their leader or rather, the team’s first leader under him led them to two playoff appearances in a row in 2022 and 2023. However, 2024 presented a different scenario, as the team didn’t perform well, and we witnessed an animated exchange between Sanjiv Goenka and KL Rahul after a 10-wicket defeat to SRH in 2024 at Hyderabad.

There is no doubt that if Rahul goes to the auction, he may get more than 10 crores, and many teams are surely going to bid for him. Also, considering other factors, the reason we think he may not be retained is the current mega auction policy with four retentions and two RTMs; LSG may look to strengthen their core rather than retain Rahul.

Rohit Sharma

Five IPL trophies and more than 6,000 runs, this is just a brief summary of the living legend Rohit Sharma, who is reportedly on the verge of leaving MI. If the reports are to be believed, the decade-long skipper of MI may part ways with the franchise in IPL 2025. If that happens, there is no doubt that a few franchises will break the bank for this giant. Teams like LSG and PBKS, who are searching for the right captain, will see him as the perfect ingredient, and they will go for him. It’s possible that he may become the IPL’s most expensive player, potentially earning more than 20 crores easily. Currently, Sharma receives an amount of 16 crores from the MI franchise.

Jasprit Bumrah

Boom Boom Bumrah, apart from Rohit, the one player every franchise is eyeing is none other than the rockstar of Indian bowling, Jasprit Bumrah. His unbelievable game awareness and hard-hitting deck bowling make him one of the most lethal pacers in the world of cricket. Speaking of his IPL stats, with 165 wickets in 133 matches, he has been an invaluable asset to the Mumbai Indians team. However, it seems he might also be on the verge of leaving the franchise. While there aren’t many reports, a few suggest there is a chance he may depart.

Since Hardik Pandya became the captain for the IPL 2024 season, various reports of mismanagement within the MI camp have surfaced. In November 2023, reports indicated that Bumrah had unfollowed Mumbai Indians on social media, hinting at the possibility of his departure. Bumrah, who currently receives 12 crores from MI, might look for a new team willing to break the bank for him. It’s likely that many franchises will compete for him, and he could potentially earn a sum exceeding 20 crores in the IPL.
