One of the most popular IPL franchises, RCB, initially retained three players and then acquired 19 players in the IPL 2025 mega auction. Virat Kohli
This IPL marks Virat Kohli’s first since retiring from T20 international cricket, and there’s a strong buzz on social media suggesting he might return as RCB captain. Many reports also hint at the possibility that Kohli will command and be the leader once again. If we look at the timespan of Kohli’s captaincy in the IPL, he led RCB from 2013 to 2021, and the team reached the playoffs on four occasions. He also understands the culture of RCB well. Not to forget, RCB reached the finals in the 2016 IPL season under him, with Kohli coming out on top with the bat, scoring 973 runs, including four centuries and seven fifties. So certainly he is the first name.
Phil Salt
RCB signed star English wicketkeeper-batter Phil Salt for Rs 11.50 crore in the IPL mega auction. When a team spends such a hefty amount on a player, it certainly indicates high expectations, not only for him to contribute as a stylish batter but also to potentially take on the role of captain. After signing with RCB, there were rumours that he could be a potential captain of the team, a player any team would love to have. Apart from the two names mentioned earlier, Salt also stands as a strong contender for the captaincy role at RCB in IPL 2025.
Krunal Pandya
Not new to captaincy in the IPL or on the domestic circuit, Krunal Pandya has often been called upon to step in as captain when the regular skipper is unavailable. This was evident in IPL 2023 when KL Rahul was sidelined due to injury, and Krunal took charge of LSG. Also, he has an impressive record as a leader in domestic cricket. However, we may see a surprise, as RCB is known for giving surprises. Maybe they could opt for Krunal Pandya as their captain in IPL 2025.
