Jay Shah, who is almost confirmed to become the ICC Chairman, opens a seat for the BCCI secretary position. After successfully serving as BCCI secretary and also as president of the Asian Cricket Council, he is now all set for this new role following confirmation from Greg Barclay that he will not continue as ICC chairman, as his contract is set to expire in November after nearly four years in the position.
Barclay who first became the independent ICC chairman in November 2020 and successfully secured his spot unopposed in 2022.But now with changes coming as Jay Shah is set to become ICC chairman, the BCCI will be looking for a new secretary. Who could be the next person to take on this role and lead as Jay Shah did over the years?
Who could become BCCI secretary?
Rohan Jaitley
Rohan Jaitley is currently holding the office of the President of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), and many reports indicate that he is the leading name in the race to replace Shah. Among the other names being discussed, his stands out.
Rohan came into cricket administration in 2020 and was subsequently elected as president of the DDCA. It is noteworthy to mention that his father, Arun Jaitley, once served as the vice-president of the BCCI also served as DDCA president for almost 14 years, which has strengthened their influence in both the BCCI and DDCA. Although Rohan has currently dismissed all reports regarding leaving the DDCA, it will be interesting to see how things develop with him.
Rajiv Shukla
One possible name is Rajiv Shukla. It will be interesting to see how things unfold, as BCCI may consider giving him the BCCI secretary job. There is no question that Shukla has massive influence within the BCCI management, having experience holding different positions in the BCCI and also serving as IPL chairman. He has currently held the vice presidency of the BCCI since December 2020. It is clear that Shukla would certainly be interested in taking on this high-profile job in the BCCI.
Arun Dhumal
Arun Dhumal, the current IPL chairman, is also a dark horse for the BCCI secretary position. Has a strong CV, having held the position of BCCI treasurer and now the IPL chairmanship, where he has performed exceptionally well. Under Dhumal’s leadership, the IPL saw a massive increase in profits, particularly with rising media rights and sponsorship rates.
It is possible that we could see him in the mix for the secretary role in the BCCI, as the organization often brings surprises. It will be interesting to see how things unfold and who ultimately takes the BCCI secretary post.
