Now, with the mega auction approaching and CSK, known for their effective management during the auction, this is one of the reasons why they have won the IPL five times. There is no question that Australian players will be a priority along with Indian players in upcoming auction. Speaking about CSK, in the past, they have always had amazing Aussies in the camp. From Matthew Hayden to Ben Hilfenhaus, all have played for this team and performed exceptionally well. However, last season saw no Aussies playing for CSK, which was interesting for many. So, can they go for some Australian cricketers this time, or will they do the same as they did last time? If they pursue Australian players, who are going to be their main targets?
Australians CSK should target in IPL 2025
David Warner
Can the Delhi Capitals let go David Warner? The chances are extremely high that the DC franchise may go for some young names and not retain Warner. If this happens, CSK may consider acquiring this southpaw, although they might not pursue him at a huge price.
Also, looking at the scenario and past results, many Australian top-order batters have excelled for CSK. Matthew Hayden ,Shane Watson both batted at the top for yellow camp and made big runs. It will be interesting to see how things go for Warner, as last season was not good for him. But every team wants a player who has scored more than 6,000 runs and has an aggressive approach. He will be a perfect for CSK in IPL 2025.
Mitchell Starc
The second name that could be debatable is Mitchell Starc, but CSK needs some experienced bowlers. They do have Deepak Chahar and Matheesha Pathirana, who have been playing for CSK and doing well, but they are surely not as experienced as Mitchell Starc. Last year, we saw how KKR went all out to buy him, acquiring his services for 24.75 crore, which was more than the IPL prize money. He justified his price, especially in the playoffs of IPL 2024, showcasing what a big-match player he is. Starc could definitely be on CSK’s wishlist.
Tim David
Tim David has been the most talked-about name over the past two IPL seasons. Not to forget, in the last mega auction, six franchises bid for him. He has earned the reputation of a finisher in the Big Bash League. David, who currently plays for MI, had a breakthrough season in 2023, where he, along with Cameron Green, single-handedly secured many games for MI. David has been amazing with the bat, especially given his experience of playing in various leagues around the world, from The Hundred to the BBL to the Caribbean Premier League, and now in the IPL as well. He has played 38 games to date. CSK could consider Tim David for IPL 2025 if MI releases him, as they would gain a master finisher who could also provide a bowling option.
