Cometh the hour, cometh the Man! At last Mitchell Starc has won his battle with his incredible price tag. The Aussie pacer produced 2 bowling masterclasses to help Kolkata Knight Riders lift IPL 2024 trophy. In the end, Starc ended IPL 2024 with 17 wickets from 14 games and with the word “Champion” printed on his back.
Questions were raised after Gautam Gambhir went on to spend a whopping 24.75 crore on the Australian pacer. This made him the highest priced player in the history of IPL. But it wasn’t easy going for the World Cup winner. On the contrary, Starc had a poor start.
Redemption Arc!
He failed to bag wickets and conceded huge runs. While KKR kept their trust on their ace bowler, he was incidentally dropped for a match. But then began his incredible and outstanding redemption arc.
Accompanied by the other bowlers, Starc started to fire on all cylinders. But he kept his best for the last. Against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Qualifiers 1, he scalped 3 crucial wickets. In the IPL 2024 finals against the same opposition, he broke SRH’s top order with 2 wickets in his opening spell.
Warning signs for Team India
It is all good news for KKR and IPL that Starc has been able to justify his enormously high price tag. But that the end of it. For the Indian Cricket Team it is not a good news. In fact it sounds as warning bells. With Starc regaining form just ahead of the T20 World Cup, India will be wary of him.
