U19 World Cup 2024 Preview: India aim for record 6th title under Uday Saharan’s leadership

India are the most successful side in the U19 World Cup, having won the tournament five times. This time around, Uday Saharan will lead India in their bid for a record 6th title.

The U19 World Cup 2024 will begin on Friday with hosts South Africa taking on the West Indies, while Ireland will take on the United States. India start their campaign against Bangladesh on Saturday, January 20. India are the most successful side in the U19 World Cup, having won the tournament five times. This time around, Uday Saharan will lead India in their bid for a record 6th title.

The U19 has been a breeding ground for future superstars. India have found some immense talent from the earlier editions of the U19 World Cup. From Yuvraj Singh and Mohammed Kaif in 2000, Rohit Sharma in 2006, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja in 2008, to Rishabh Pant and Ishan Kishan in 2016 and more recently the likes of Shubman Gill in 2018 and Yashasvi Jaiswal in 2020, some of the biggest Indian superstars have graced the tournament. India have been drawn into Group A of the U19 World Cup along with Bangladesh, Ireland and United States. There are three more groups before the Super Six stage, where teams will be split into two groups.
