2023 World Cup: While the complete 2023 World Cup schedule is yet to be out, Kerala’s wait to host World Cup matches may be over. Thiruvananthapuram is likely to be chosen as one of the venues to host World Cup matches when the tournament commences in India during October – November. Greenfield Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram is likely to get two to three matches during the showpiece event.
It also learnt that the three games are likely to be played in October itself Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) fear rain may spoilsport in November. “When the ICC officially announces the ODI World Cup schedule, Thiruvananthapuram’s name should figure in it. However, it (Thiruvananthapuram) is unlikely to get any matches involving India. Sri Lanka may play there, and there could be a couple of other matches as well,” said an official related to the development.

2023 World Cup: KCA is yet to get confirmation from BCCI for hosting World Cup games
KCA have also stated that it is yet to receive a green signal from BCCI to host matches in Thiruvananthapuram. KCA has put in the request to BCCI, and, hopefully, the board will give a positive response. Kerala has hosted only three ODI World Cups before, as it was never considered as a venue. However, players both current and former have put in positive reviews about the stadium.
“It is true that we have requested the BCCI to consider Thiruvananthapuram as a World Cup venue. We are hopeful of getting some games. However, we are still awaiting official confirmation from the BCCI and ICC,” KCA president Jayesh George, the former joint secretary of BCCI, told TOI.
Speaking about the World Cup schedule, BCCI is likely to announce the venues and schedule this week. The main talking point of the ODI World Cup 2023 is about the Indo-PAK match.
