2023 World Cup: Another demand! Pakistan refuse to play Afghanistan in warm-up match

Ahead of the 2023 World Cup in India, the PCB had also asked the ICC to modify the location of their matches against Australia and Afghanistan.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) does not appear to be interested in playing an ICC 2023 World Cup warm-up match against Afghanistan.

The PCB wants to play a non-Asian side in the warm-up match because it will already play Afghanistan in the Asia Cup before the ODI World Cup, as per Geo News sources.

In this regard, the PCB has also sent a letter to the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Other demands of PCB ahead of 2023 World Cup

Ahead of the 2023 World Cup in India, the PCB had also asked the ICC to modify the location of their matches against Australia and Afghanistan.

Pakistan has requested that the ICC switch the locations of the aforementioned matches since doing so would make them “favourites,” according to a report by ESPNcricinfo. They will play Australia in Bengaluru and Afghanistan in Chennai, according to the provisional schedule.

The PCB’s internal letter stated that “Australia in Bengaluru and Afghanistan in Chennai are the two we should look to get changed as much as possible.”

“Ideally, we can switch these around. Australia in Chennai and Afghanistan in Bengaluru would make us obvious favourites in both matches.”

All but three of Pakistan’s games, including the encounter against India on October 15, are up for alteration, according to the PCB.

The note continued, “India will have an advantage in Ahmedabad, but I suspect that will change given what that location means for the BCCI and what this match means for the World Cup.”

“Lucknow would also be a good ground for us considering the overall numbers there. Delhi against most teams would be good for us too. If there is a third change we can make it to get the England game to Lucknow or Chennai.”

On June 27, 100 days before the tournament’s scheduled start on October 5, the ICC Cricket World Cup’s official schedule may be revealed.
