A month after police stopped a Pakistani fan from chanting pro-Pakistan slogans during the World Cup 2023 in Bengaluru, now two Indian people have been arrested for the same. The incident happened during a live screen for the IND vs AUS 4th T20I in Raipur.
The two men arrested, Inayath and Syed Mubarak, live in the New Gurappana Palya region of the city and were in a pub when the incident occurred, reported Indian Express. As per a police officer who was at the scene, the two men were at Mockaholic Pub watching the match.
However, at around 10.30 pm, a kerfuffle occurred as the two men were watching the IND vs AUS 4th T20I match along with their friends. According to the pub manager, Sudhir Singh, one of the patrons in the pub shouted ‘Bharat Mata Ki Ja’ during the match. This agitated Inayath, Syed Mubarak, and their friends shouted ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ in retort.
After the incident, a verbal fight ensued as several patrons of the pub objected to the slogans raised by the group of men. As the police were called by the manager, Inayath and Syed were caught, while their two other friends absconded.
The two suspects were then taken to the J. P. Nagar police station, where a case was registered against them under Sections 153(a) (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc.) and 505(2) (making the publication and circulation of content that may cause ill-will or hatred between different groups an offence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
