Just 15 days remain before the India Cricket Team takes on England for a white ball series in T20Is followed by ODIs. And this means Mohammed Shami has exactly a fortnight to regain his full fitness. The IND vs ENG series will essentially be a practice series before the much coveted ICC Champions Trophy.
Ever since returning from his long-term injury, Mohammed Shami has been playing well in domestic cricket. He was almost selected for the Border Gavaskar Trophy till a flare showed up on his knee. But now attention turns to white ball cricket and the ace pacer faces a race against time to regain 100% fitness for international cricket.
Race against time for Mohammed Shami
Mohammed Shami’s last international match was against Australia in the ODI World Cup final. Following this he underwent an operation on his ankle. But his return was delayed till be rejoined the Bengal squad. He played a Ranji Trophy match, quite a few Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) matches and now is taking part in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
He was in line to travel to Australia for the IND vs AUS Test series till he developed a swelling on his knee. And for that, he was also rested for a few Vijay Hazare Trophy matches. But now he is back to normal and played a stunning cameo with the bat the other day against Madhya Pradesh.

Place in Team India squad?
It is expected that the BCCI will announce the squad of the Champions Trophy and the IND vs ENG series on the same date. The date for submission of the ICC event squad is 12th January and Shami is expected to be a part of both the squads. Furthermore, it is of paramount importance that Shami gets some much-needed international practice games before the ICC event.
The India Cricket Team will be hopeful of getting the services of their ace pacer back soon. And with Jasprit Bumrah suffering a back spasm, it remains to be seen when Bumrah will be a 100% fit to be back in the squad. For the unversed, Bumrah suffered a back ace on Day 2 of the Sydney Test and didn’t bowl the next day.
