Welcome to our special segment, DRS or the Daily Review System. In this, InsideSport will provide you with the top cricket stories from a day before that you might have missed in the hustle and bustle of your busy life.

Right now, it seems like every day is a bad day to be a Pakistan cricket team fan. We are hearing that Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and Mohammad Rizwan are going to be ‘rested’ for an upcoming series in August. Let’s come to Indian cricket now. Shubman Gill has gone home due to an injured finger; Gautam Gambhir wants Jonty Rhodes to be India’s new fielding coach; and Shreyas Iyer is on course to return to the national side after six months.

Shubman Gill out with injury, not indiscipline

The plot thickens! Shubman Gill, who’s flown back to India after the group stage of the T20 World Cup, has apparently returned home due to a finger injury. According to the Times of India, the opener sustained the injury during the IPL 2024 and had arrived in the USA while being hampered. The report further added that Gill might need to have an injury.

Gambhir wants Jonty

Gautam Gambhir is all set to become the India cricket team’s next head coach. According to Cricbuzz, the World Cup winner wants Jonty Rhodes to be Team India’s fielding coach. The head coach has full autonomy when it comes to the selection of the support staff, and the KKR mentor wants nothing but the best.

Babar, Rizwan & Shaheen rested?

Following the Pakistan cricket team’s exit from the T20 World Cup, reports are coming in that Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi might be rested for the upcoming 2-match Test series between Pakistan and Bangladesh. Why? The reason isn’t out yet, but it could very well be related to the team’s performance at the mega-event in the USA.

KKR dream team

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Shreyas Iyer and mentor Gautam Gambhir are expected to work together as a team once again. After losing his BCCI central contract, the Ranji Trophy and IPL winner is expected to play under Gambhir once again during India’s white-ball tour to Sri Lanka in July-August.

New India Football Team coach!

Following the sacking of Igor Stimac, the next job for the AIFF is to find a replacement. Reports claim that the apex body is currently looking for a coach who has experience in ISL. And among them, one of the names that has appeared is former Bengaluru FC and Leeds United manager, Simon Grayson. Simon has decent with BFC where he emerged as runners up in both ISL Shield and ISL Cup in the 2022-23 season. Another name that has emerged is that of former East Bengal manager, Trevor James Morgan.

Germany breeze past Hungary with relative ease!

In the first game of the day, Albania played out a thrilling 2-2 draw. Albania opened the scoring before Croatia took charge. But at the end, Klaus Gjasula redeemed his own goal with a last minute finish. In the second game, Jamal Musiala and Ilkay Gundogan parried to secure a 2-0 win for the hosts. In the last game of the day, Scotland and Switzerland played out a cagey 1-1 draw. Scott McTominay opened the scoring for the Scots, but a screamer from Xherdan Shaqiri ensured both teams got home with a point apiece.
