Sri Lanka Cricket has gone on to announce the raise in the player fees for all International players for the nation. A total of 41 players have been offered contracts under 6 new categories. But the most interesting is the match fees in Test format. There has been a 100% increase in match fees but the payments to the players will be done on merit basis.
The 6 categories in which the players have been divided are A1, A2, B2, C1, C2, and ‘A’ Team.
Test Match fees based on Merit
“Under the latest raise, match fees for the Test format have been increased by 100 percent, while payments will be made on merit basis. There will be different payment structures for a test match ‘won’, ‘drawn’ or ‘lost.’,” reads the statement from the official release by the Sri Lanka Cricket.
However, that is not the case for ODIs and T20Is. In both the white ball format of the game, the match fees have been increased by 25%, On the other hand, it is bizarre in red ball format. There is 100% increase but the payment is to be made under merit basis.
This essentially means that there will be different match payments in Tests based on results. As a result, match payments for a win or draw will be different from a loss.
“Additionally, daily allowances and per diems for all contracted players have been enhanced to provide better support during national team’s inbound and outbound engagements,” concluded the release.
