Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Gujarat Giants Highlights: It was carnage at Brabourne on Saturday as Sophie Devine’s ‘Divine’ performance powered RCB Women to an 8-wicket win in a must-win match against Gujarat Giants. Bowling first, RCB Women conceded 188 which looked like a winning total on the pitch but the Kiwi all-rounder had other plans as she came out all gun blazing. Devine took on veteran Ashleigh Gardner for 24 runs in her first over. She then took on youngster Tanuja Kanwar and smashed her for 25 runs. Devine completed her fifty in just 20 balls and was on verge of equaling the record of fastest hundred when she holed out at mid-off on 99. Ellyse Perry and Heather Knight then comfortably nudged it around to chase down the target in 15.3 overs, giving their team a huge NRR boost. With this win, RCB Women has moved to 4 points. Earlier, Gujarat Giants impressed with the bat as Laura Wolvaardt and Ashleigh Gardner took the RCB bowlers to the cleaners. Wolvaardt scored 68 off 42 balls, while Gardner scored 41 off 26 deliveries to power the Giants to 188. However, Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine made their intentions clear with the first over itself as the duo picked up 13 runs in the first over. Gujarat Giants’ skipper Sneh Rana was at ‘short of words’ after the game as she praised Devine’s high-class innings.
“I am short of words right now [about Devine’s knock]. That is the game of cricket. It was a good total on the board but we couldn’t do it with the ball. It was a good total on this pitch. We were not up to the mark with our bowling”, Rana said.
With RCB’s win, Delhi Capitals have officially qualified for the playoffs as now only UP Warriorz can equal them on eight points, while the maximum that RCB and Gujarat Giants can end on is six points. However, the final spot is still up for grabs as UP Warriorz, Gujarat Giants and RCB can still end up in a three-way tie for the third and final playoff spot on six points.
