Day out in Barbados, Kohli-Rohit play beach volleyball, practice begins today

BCCI had asked the players holidaying to join squad by July 3. Team India will begin practice today with a practice game on July 6.

India Cricket Team will begin practice for the two-match IND vs WI Test series against West Indies today in Barbados. Ahead of the practice session, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, and Yashasvi Jaiswal among others had a day out as they enjoyed a beach volleyball session. India vs West Indies Test series begins on July 12. But before that the team will have week-long camp including two practice games in Barbados before the 1st Test in Dominica.

BCCI issued a diktat to players to report back for India camp by July 3 in Barbados. India captain Rohit Sharma who was holidaying in Europe since the WTC Final reached Barbados on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli will join the squad a little late on Tuesday Indian time. India will play the practice game on July 6 against a local team. However, the match won’t be of First Class status.

Although the team management did request Cricket West Indies for First Class matches, it will only be a mixed squad with some of the local players joining the Indian team for practice games. Team India chose Barbados over Roseau due to poor facilities at the venue.

“They are training at Kensington Oval until we private charter them to Dominica before the start of the Test Series,” a CWI official told Cricbuzz.

The West Indies team will have their camp in Antigua at the High-Performance Centre at Coolidge Cricket Ground. They will travel to Dominica ahead of the Test. Apart from the Test specialists, some of the multi-format players who are playing in the World Cup 2023 qualifiers will reach Dominica directly.

Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Jaydev Unadkat, Navdeep Saini.
