It will be Dhoni’s first game in nearly three years at the Chepauk Stadium. The former India captain was in a lot of pain after landing awkwardly on his knee during Friday’s match against Gujarat Titans. Though, he was eventually able to move past it.
“He is absolutely fine. There is no concern. MS is managing the knee injury well and there is no reason why he should not start against Lucknow. Dhoni and the entire squad are raring to play at Chepauk,” the CSK official told InsideSport.

The incident happened in the closing moments of the game when CSK pacer Deepak Chahar delivered a ball down the leg side. Rahul Tewatia’s pads took a deflection of the ball as it sped towards the line. Dhoni made an outstanding leap, but in vain. Even worse, he appeared to injure his left leg in the process. The CSK physio had to be called in for treatment, which necessitated a short break in play.
MS Dhoni to miss CSK vs LSG clash?
Fans worried about whether the skipper would play in the tournament’s remaining games began to discuss the injury on social media. However, Fleming ended all discussion of it in the post-game press conference by stating that while Dhoni was dealing with an injured knee during the preseason, what happened on Friday night was merely cramps.
Later, CSK coach Stephen Fleming provided a major update on Dhoni’s fitness and injury with the remainder of the season still to come.
“He was always playing. Not sure where that story came from. He was nursing a sore knee throughout the month of pre-season, but today it was just cramps, it wasn’t the knee. He’s not going to be as quick and nimble as he was 15 years ago, but he is still a great leader of the side and, even with the bat, he is still going to play a part. He knows his limitations and he is a valuable player to have on the field. He is a legend,” Fleming said.
Coming to the match, Shubman Gill top-scored for the defending champions on Friday with 63 runs, as Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans routed MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings by five wickets. Ruturaj Gaikwad’s elegant 92 for CSK went in vain. Down the order, Dhoni also made a significant appearance for CSK, scoring a 7-ball 14 that included a boundary and a six. In a successful chase for Gujarat Titans, Wriddhiman Saha, Vijay Shankar, Sai Sudharsan, Rahul Tewatia, and Rashid Khan all contributed significant runs.
