Most Consecutive T20 series win record in danger, Team India on the brink

India are on the verge of a rare series loss in T20. Currently on a 11-series winning streak, India are now on the brink of a series loss to West Indies for the first time in 6 years.

India Cricket Team is on the brink of a rare series defeat in T20s. It was back in 2021 against Sri Lanka when India last lost a series. A second-string side toured Sri Lanka and were bamboozled by Wanindu Hasaranga. And now, Hardik Pandya & Co are facing a similar fate, again against spin. Team India are on the Most Consecutive T20 Series Win record with 11 consecutive T20 series triumph in bilateral T20s. But IND vs WI can change that. A loss in India vs West Indies 3rd T20 will hand India their first series loss in two years. Against the Windies, it will be India’s first series loss in 6 years.

The last two IND vs WI T20s did not go as per plan. If Jason Holder made the difference in the 1st T20, Nicholas Pooran was the hero in 2nd T20s. However, questions must be asked of India’s decision-making too. As a result, India find themselves trailing in the 5-match series 0-2. Another loss in Guyana and India will not only lose a rare T20 series but also the record for the most consecutive T20 series win.

Incidentally, India’s winning run began against West Indies at home. India thumped Windies 3-0 for a whitewash in the T20 series. While a washout against South Africa in the 5th T20 prevented an India series win or loss, barring Asia Cup T20 or T20 World Cup, India maintained a clean record against all teams in bilateral series.

In the last T20 series, India won 2-1 against New Zealand. Under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy so far, India have won 8 and lost only 4 games, including the two against West Indies in the current series.

What has gone wrong in IND vs WI:

  • Not that the series is significant but it is also a build-up to T20 World Cup 2024.
  • Hence, India have resorted to experimentation, giving chances to IPL performers.
  • However, in doing so, India have left their batting exposed.
  • Both Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan have faltered while Suryakumar Yadav hasn’t fired yet.
  • To make things worse, Sanju Samson has also disappointed so far with returns of 12 & 7.
  • In the bowling, some decisions too have raised eyebrows. Yuzvendra Chahal only bowled three overs when spin did the talking.
  • Axar Patel wasn’t even given the chance to bowl at a time when Windies batters were going against seamers.
  • The only positive so far is Tilak Varma who has played brilliantly and has already got a half-century.
  • Hardik Pandya too has done well with both bat and the ball. But the team needs to fire together.
