This was Chennai Super Kings’ only 4th win at the Wankhede Stadium. Despite missing key players, CSK were on top and MI struggled throughout. The win takes CSK to 4th spot on the points table with 4 points from 3 matches. Mumbai are yet to open their account after two games. MI, DC and SRH are the only three teams without any points to their names.
Mumbai Indians posted 157/8 with Tim David (31 off 22) and Hrithik Shokeen (18 off 13) playing some entertaining knocks in the end after a batting collapse. Ravindra Jadeja and Mitchell Santner were the two who rattled Mumbai with spin attack. Jadeja returned with 3/20 and Santner bagged 2/28 as the duo nullified Mumbai’s blazing start. Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan added 38 runs in 4 overs but it soon fizzled out.
Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni won the toss and opted to bowl first against Mumbai Indians in the Indian El Clasico. But Chennai are missing two big guns in Ben Stokes and Moeen Ali. Mumbai too are missing their English pace spearhead Jofra Archer. Ajinkya Rahane makes CSK debut. Dwayne Pretorius returns to Playing XI for CSK.
