IPL 2023: Fans were at their most amusing after a Royal Challengers Bangalore supporter was tromped on Twitter by the Rajasthan Royals account ahead of their clash against the Punjab Kings on Wednesday. Internet users reacted by claiming that RR batter Devdutt Padikkal avenged the teasing with a sluggish 26-ball 21 run inning. Of note, Padikkal played for the RCB squad from 2019 until the IPL 2021. After being given the chance to bat first, the PBKS team scored 197/4 in 20 overs. Shikhar Dhawan (86*) and Prabhsimran Singh (60) were their top batters as openers. In reply, RR made a quick start but dropped three wickets during the powerplay. The score after 5.4 overs was 57/3. At this point, Devdutt Padikkal (21 off 26 balls), who had replaced Jos Buttler in the batting order, entered the fray.
At the other end, Sanju Samson persisted in playing aggressively, and Padikkal found it difficult to equal his batting rhythm. Samson (42 off 25 balls), who departed attempting to up the ante, was ultimately brought down by his slow pace. Then, Riyan Parag hit a few shots and delighted the crowd at his home field. In the fifteenth over, he experienced the same destiny as his captain.
Devdutt Padikkal’s torturous 26-ball stay at the wicket was over in the same over when Nathan Ellis cleaned him up, putting an end to his suffering.In spite of heroic cameos from Shimron Hetmyer (36) and Dhruv Jurel (32*), RR ultimately lost the game by five runs.
