In an interview with news agency PTI, Parag said, “I have been doing the finishing role for the last three years now. There is just one name that comes to my mind which I also have said before, MS Dhoni. I do not think anyone else has mastered that art. Going into that role, I always look up to him, how he finishes games or how he takes the game deep.”
In the opening match of the IPL 2023, Dhoni’s CSK will take on the defending champions Gujarat Titans on Friday at the renowned Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Rajasthan Royals have also set Parag to fill the finisher position, continuing their prior decision to keep him for the 2019 season. Nevertheless, Parag admitted that the power hitter would want to bat at position No. 4 in the RR lineup for the IPL 2023.
“If they (Royals) were to ask me where I want to bat, I would say No. 4. But, then, like always, I am open to bat wherever the team needs me and wherever they think I fit the best. It is a team game; whichever way the combinations match up, I am happy to contribute,” Parag said.
MS Dhoni’s CSK will look to improve in the forthcoming season of the lucrative league after a forgettable campaign the previous year. The four-time champions were in ninth place in the 10-team event last year. In 14 league games, Dhoni’s Yellow Brigade only managed to win four games, and they lost ten of them games.
On the other hand, the Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals, will begin their IPL 2023 campaign on Sunday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium against the winners of the 2016 season (SRH).
