On a slow Ekana Stadium pitch, not many expect Australian players to become a smash hit. But Marcus Stoinis had other ideas. He not only excelled on a track that drew wrath of fans, the Australian hit 47-ball 89 including 8 sixes in the LSG vs MI clash. But it was his assault on Chris Jordan that entertained the fans. He smashed the T20 World Champion for 24 runs with 3 fours and 2 sixes. Follow IPL 2023 LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN.

Stoinis vs Jordan: How it all unfolded?

It was in the 18th over when Marcus Stoinis unleashed his supreme power-hitting. Until that over, Stoinis was batting at an under-par 35-ball 45. But the over changed everything.

17.1: SIX! Jordan bowled a length delivery on the off and Stoinis ensured he reaches his fifty in style. He played a lofted shot over the long-on for a six.

17.2: No-Run! There was a dot ball too. Jordan bowled an off-cutter, his signature delivery and Stoinis had no answer as he punched the back of the length delivery to the Englishman.

17.3: FOUR! Jordan once again tried the off-cutter. But with the ball at body length, Stoinis pulled it trhough the backward point for a 4.

17.4: FOUR! No variation and Stoinis punished another off-cutter by Jordan. It was another delivery outside off and Stoinis cut it over the backward point for a 4.

17.5: SIX! Stoinis silenced the Englishman who was terrific in the World Cup final. He tried to find the yorker-length but could only manage a low fulltoss. Stoinis smashed it for a 6.

17.6: FOUR! Stoinis finished the over with another boundary to collect 24 runs off the over. Jordan tried another slower off-cutter but it was shortish and Jordan whipped it through the short fine leg for a 4.

That wasn’t the end, however. It was time for his Australian mate Jason Behrendorff as well. Stoinis hammered Behrendorff for two more sixes in the next over as Lucknow Super Giants ended up with 177/3.

As for Jordan, he may struggle to find a suitor after conceding another 50 runs in his four overs. Jordan now has the second worst economy rate in IPL after Stoinis.

  • 9.58 Marcus Stoinis
  • 9.52 Chris Jordan
  • 9.48 Sam Curran
  • 9.26 Andre Russell
  • 9.13 Shardul Thakur
