Prithvi Shaw vs Shubman Gill: Virender Sehwag’s Reality Check for Shaw
The former India legendary opener, Virender Sehwag in conversation with Cricbuzz, was left furious at Shaw’s dismissal. Explaining that he has been dismissed in that fashion many times and yet doesn’t care to learn from his mistakes. Sehwag also reminded Shaw that his competitors like Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad have edged far ahead in the race.
“He has been dismissed playing those kinds of shots so many times. But he should also learn from his mistakes, right? Look at Shubman Gill, who played U-19 cricket with him. And is now playing Test, ODIs, and T20Is for India, but Shaw is still struggling in IPL,” said Sehwag.
“He has to make the most of this IPL platform and score runs. Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 600-odd runs in an IPL season. Shubman Gill also scored big runs. So even Shaw has to be consistent with his IPL scores,” he added.
During the match against GT, Prithvi Shaw’s faulty technique was immediately pointed out by Sunil Gavaskar. While doing commentary Gavaskar said, “Once again that backfoot has done him in, it doesn’t move at all.” Gavaskar pointed out that Shaw’s backfoot was the cause of his failure, as it failed to move forward or backward during the shot.
Prithvi Shaw has had two consecutive poor performances with the bat in the 2023 Indian Premier League. In Delhi’s first home game against the Gujarat Titans on Tuesday, he scored only 7 runs off 5 balls before being dismissed. Last week, in their match against the Lucknow Super Giants, he could only manage 12 runs off 9 balls. Now, Shaw has to perform well against Rajasthan Royals on April 8 at Baraspara Cricket Stadium.
