IPL 2023: Chennai Super Kings coach Stephen Fleming revealed the reason behind MS Dhoni‘s role in the death overs, ahead of their crucial clash against Kolkata Knight Riders. Fleming emphasized that MS Dhoni recognizes his limitations and trains accordingly. In their previous game against Delhi Capitals, Dhoni displayed his prowess by punishing Khaleel Ahmed with two sixes and a four in the 19th over. Additionally, he effectively led his bowlers, resulting in a convincing 27-run victory over Delhi Capitals. Follow Indian Premier League 2023 LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN

Stephen Fleming Revealed Why MS Dhoni Strategy

Reflecting on the team’s performance, CSK coach Stephen Fleming expressed satisfaction with the home side’s batting and acknowledged the value of Dhoni’s cameo in the intense 20 overs. During the post-match conference, Fleming stated, “He’s just training a certain way, he knows he’s not gonna bat for a long time. He concentrated more on the last three overs. He’s concentrated on really strong-headed practice.”

Regarding the decision to bat first on the dry Chennai pitch, Fleming remarked, “The wicket was really dry, it kept humming but the captain (MS Dhoni) was certain about batting today.”

Addressing concerns about the top-order’s inability to convert starts into substantial scores, Fleming attributed it to the evolving nature of the game. He said, “It’s a reflection of the way games now are played, the players play with more high risks and the way you compose an innings is a little bit different, so I’m happy with the cameos, it keeps you pushing above par.”

Fleming further highlighted the positive intent displayed by the team, which transformed a potentially 160-run wicket into a score close to 175. He mentioned the contributions of Dube, Rayudu, and MS Dhoni at the end, emphasizing their role in creating a favorable position despite losing seven wickets.

CSK Just One Win Away from Playoffs

With the victory, CSK reached 15 points, and securing just one win from their remaining two games would likely guarantee their place in the last four. On the other hand, Delhi Capitals’ campaign seems bleak, as they have accumulated only 8 points from 11 games, suffering seven defeats.

As CSK prepares for the crucial clash against KKR, Stephen Fleming’s insights shed light on the strategic approach of the team, particularly MS Dhoni’s calculated role in the death overs. The team’s positive intent and Dhoni’s exceptional leadership have played a significant role in their recent successes, propelling them closer to securing a spot in the playoffs.
