IPL 2023: Matthew Hayden Wants MS Dhoni to Play a Bigger Role in CSK’s Success
Former Australian legend, Matthew Hayden is expecting CSK’s veteran players such as Dhoni and Rayudu to play a key role. He wants Dhoni to step up and play an important role in the team’s success and not just be a leader in the dressing room.
“They have had this for a little, that they’re kind of a Dad’s Army – a tagline that they seem to have received. This year is a little bit the same as well,” said Hayden.

“MS Dhoni (41) is of an age like Ambati Rayudu (37) where they really need to be key players, not just have the potential as leaders of the team. So those two key players in particular, with that age of their side, is it going to be experienced or is it going to be the decline of CSK?” he added.
In the previous season, CSK finished second last at the ninth spot. They won only four games out of fourteen matches. In 2022, Ravindra Jadeja lost his captaincy midway as MS Dhoni became the skipper once again. Earlier in 2020 also, CSK finished in second last place with just six wins.
However, in IPL season 16 CSK has made some significant changes. They let go of some big names such as Dwayne Bravo, Chris Jordan, and Robin Uthappa. Meanwhile, they’ve also signed England’s Test skipper Ben Stokes for a whopping sum of INR 16.25 crore to add more steel to their batting unit.
