Cricket in Olympics 2028: International Cricket Council (ICC) is still hopeful of cricket’s inclusion in the Los Angeles Olympics 2028. The ICC along with other hopeful sports will give a presentation to the LA organisers next month. Although LA28 has already finalised 28 sports, it is still open to the addition of other sports. “One of our strategic priorities is to get into the LA Olympics. The decision is made by the IOC in consultation with the LOC of LA28. All we can do is put our best foot forward and hope that cricket is taken into LA,” the ICC chairman Greg Barclay told Cricbuzz.
However, it is likely that cricket will be included in Brisbane 2032 Olympics. But ICC is banking on cricket’s popularity in South Asia and a billion fan to push cricket in the Olympics.
“We believe that there’s a unique opportunity in the partnership of cricket, the Olympic Movement and LA2028. We want our global fanbase of one billion-plus to be part of the world’s greatest sporting event. We want our best players and most dynamic format to enjoy the unique global platform of the Games,” Barclay told Wall Street Journal.

Cricket in Olympics 2028: Roadblocks for cricket in LA Olympics
- The US does not have the infrastructure to host a multi-nation cricket tournament.
- Currently, baseball stadiums are converted into makeshift cricket stadiums for cricket matches.
- But the US should have the infrastructure ready by 2024 as the ICC has granted joint hosting rights to the US alongside West Indies with an eye on LA 2028.
- India, the most popular cricket team on earth will also be travelling to the US and will play a part of their series against West Indies in August this year.
LA Olympics 2028 Sports: Aquatics, archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, canoe, cycling, equestrian, fencing, golf, gymnastics, handball, hockey, judo, rowing, rugby, sailing, shooting, skateboarding, soccer, sport climbing, surfing, taekwondo, tennis, table tennis, triathlon, volleyball and wrestling.
Sports under consideration: Cheerleading, cricket, flag football, lacrosse, baseball and softball.
