BCCI Media Rights: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set for another cash windfall with new media rights. With the current deal with Disney-Star expired, BCCI is in the process of floating the tender. However, unlike last time, BCCI is set to separate TV and digital rights after an overwhelming response from IPL Media Rights. And with that, a senior BCCI official believes the board can earn over Rs 12,000 Crore, double what the board earned from sales in 2018. Follow India Cricket Team LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN.

“The process is on. Yes, the idea is to separate TV and Digital which was bundled earlier. But a final decision will be taken in the next apex council meeting. We received a great response for IPL and that’s the way forward. The numbers show that the audience is moving towards digital than TV. Hence, it only makes sense to separate the two. We expect upward of 12,000 Crore this time,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.

The last time BCCI sold media rights, they bagged Rs 6138.10 Cr with Disney-Star bagging the rights. This time, it is set to go up. BCCI has hired an external agency to finalise the process. With India set to play 20 Tests, 21 ODIs and 31 T20s at home under the 2023-27 FTP, BCCI expects a great deal once again.

With Sony and Zee missing out on both IPL, WPL and ICC deals, they will join the race. Disney-Star and Viacom18 are the two big players in India Cricket’s home series rights. With no IPL and HBO shows on Disney-Hotstar, Disney-Star would want to retain the India cricket rights to keep the OTT platform lucrative.

However, Viacom18 currently has no Indian cricket in its portfolio and would want to get into that as well.

BCCI Media Rights: All you need to know –

  • BCCI secretary Jay Shah has confirmed that the sale of media rights is already in process.
  • The tender will be floated sometime in June with the entire process set to be completed in 45 days.
  • After the success of selling IPL Media Rights separately for TV and digital, BCCI is looking to go the same route.
  • With India set to host 20 Tests, 21 ODIs and 31 T20s in the next four years, BCCI is expecting over Rs 12,000 Crore from the sale.
  • However, BCCI is yet to take a call on the duration of the new deal.
  • It will discuss with all the stakeholders before taking a call on whether it will be a 4-year deal or continue as a 5-year deal.

Temporary broadcaster for the India vs Afghanistan ODI series

Meanwhile, BCCI is looking for a temporary broadcast partner for the ODI series against Afghanistan in June. India will play 3-match ODI series before flying to West Indies. BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed that the board will take a call on temporary arrangements during IPL. The new rights will kick in only from the home series against Australia in September.

“The BCCI Media Rights tender will be on schedule this year (June-July) and will depend on the Afghanistan tour, but more likely the process will start from the Australia series. The Board will speak to all stakeholders concerned and will come up with an interim decision,” Jay Shah said on Friday.
