KL Rahul has coped with severe criticism for his form over the last few months. The 30-year-old went through a lean patch in Tests which subsequently cost him his place in the side. However, in the ODIs, Rahul continues to be as impressive as ever. Since December 2022, Rahul has often bailed out India in tricky chases showcasing nerves of steel.

Again on Friday, it was Kl Rahul who held his end of the bargain. While the rest of the batting order crumbled, the former vice-captain stood stall and steered the chase with a gutsy half-century. It was not the flashy Rahul we have grown accustomed to seeing in the IPL, but a more mature and measured knock from the experienced campaigner.

The gravity of his innings was well acknowledged by his teammates, who gave him a standing ovation from the dressing room. he eventually remained unbeaten on 75 off 91 balls, with seven boundaries and a six. Given Rishabh Pant is all but ruled out of 2023 World Cup, Rahul’s form becomes crucial for the Men in Blue.

He was immaculate behind the stumps, making a couple of eye-catching stops down the leg side. Rahul also dived well to his right to complete the catch of Steve Smith at a crucial time. His keeping against spin was also commendable, as both Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav got some purchase off the wicket.
