Jiu-jitsu competitor Gordon Ryan has informed Dillon Danis that his MMA career crumbled after teaming up with UFC superstar Conor McGregor. Danis is presently training for his bout against KSI on January 14 at the OVO Wembley Arena, which will mark the fourth iteration of DAZN’s partnership with Misfit’s Boxing, the promotional outfit run by the YouTuber-turned-boxer. After switching from jiu-jitsu and winning two Bellator fights via submission, Danis was hailed as a future MMA champion. However, the match-up signals a precipitous fall from grace for him. He hasn’t competed since June 2019, and his career has been put on hold due to a knee injury that he is still working to recover from.

Danis, 29, has won gold in multiple jiu-jitsu competitions but is primarily recognized for his friendship with former two-weight UFC champion McGregor. The American, who received his black belt in jiu-jitsu in 2015, was hired by McGregor to assist him in developing his ground game after Nate Diaz choked him out in the first UFC loss of his career.

The American grappler’s career turned worse when he teamed up with McGregor before UFC 202, according to Ryan, who used to hang out with Danis in the same circles. Danis’ reputation has increased due to his association with the biggest name in MMA history, but Ryan claims it has harmed his professional life.
