Conor McGregor, the former UFC champion over two divisions, has been making headlines lately for his political comments. According to those tweets, McGregor is firmly on the right when it comes to issues affecting Ireland, like immigration and crime lately making headlines as talks revolve of him standing for Ireland’s presidential elections.
Many people assumed McGregor was running for elections after he tweeted a picture of himself on Sunday night wearing a white suit with the statement, “Ireland, your President.”
Can Conor Qualify For The Elections
At UFC 264 in July 2021, McGregor squared up against Dustin Poirier in his final bout. Conor McGregor broke his leg in that fight and was eliminated via technical knockout.
Right now, McGregor is on a two-match losing run. It’s anticipated that Conor will rejoin the octagon in 2024. In mixed martial arts, he has 22 victories and 6 losses.
The following criteria must be met in order to run for president under Irish law:
- Should be Irish national
- Should be 35 years of age or older
- be proposed by four of the 31 county or municipal councils, or by at least 20 of the 220 currently serving members of the Houses of the Oireachtas.
The first two bullet points are applicable to McGregor, but it’s unknown how many nominations he may receive.
Though there were some skeptics, it seems that the majority of supporters of his prospective campaign are in the post’s comments.
There is no doubting McGregor’s significance, particularly in Ireland. Many also thought that, considering his command of the microphone, he would take a look at a future in politics. It was a result of his audacious criticism of the nation’s problems. Arman Tsarukyan, a fellow lightweight, doesn’t think McGregor has what it takes to be president, though. He recently discussed his opinions on the return of Ewan McGregor, the president, and other subjects.
