The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction is all set to take place next month as franchises push to strengthen the squad before the big tournament in March next year.
While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to confirm the official IPL 2024 auction date, reports on Cricbuzz have claimed that the auction is set to take place on December 19 in Dubai. Notably, this will be the first instance that the auction will take place overseas.
The reports have also added that the auction will take place at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai.
The Arena is located in the City Walk area in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. The venue is a popular place to host concerts and big events. Coca-Cola Arena, which was opened on June 6, 2019, has a capacity of 17,000.
Last year, the IPL 2023 Auction took place in Kochi. Each franchise were allowed to spend only 75% of the total expenditure. The Right to Match (RTM) card option in the IPL auction was scrapped last year but it is yet to be seen if the rule will return in this year’s auction.
