- Caroline Garcia meanwhile had to play the qualifiers to enter the main draw at Cincinnati Masters. She was the second seed in the qualifiers and won both her matches in three sets.
- After entering the main draw, she defeated Petra Martic in straight sets in the first round. She then clinched an upset victory over fourth seed Maria Sakkari in a very close contest that srtretched to three sets.
- She then sailed past Elise Mertens 6-4, 7-5 to make it to the quarterfinal.
- Garcia has been in good form as she recently won the Poland Open final in late July this year.
- She also defeated 10th seed Emma Raducanu at Wimbledon this year in the second round and went all the way until the fourth round, where she was defeated by Marie Bouzkova.
- She earlier won the Bad Homburg Open title by defeating Bianca Andreescu in three sets in the final.
