Christian Eriksen Health Update: For the first time, Denmark’s attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen spoke to the media through his agent and confirmed that he had a cardiac arrest. However, he is in better condition and will continue to stay at the hospital to understand what caused it. Eriksen collapsed during Denmark’s Euro 2020 game against Finland on Saturday.

“Thank you, I won’t give up. I feel better now – but I want to understand what’s happened. I want to say thank you all for what you did for me,” Christian Eriksen told Gazzetta dello Sport through his agent Martin Schoots.

Christian Eriksen will continue to stay at the hospital for further tests as the doctors and the Danish star wants to find out the root cause of his sudden cardiac arrest despite not having any previous history of such ailment.

“We spoke this morning (Sunday). He joked, he was in a good mood, I found him fine. We all want to understand what happened to him, he wants to do it too. The doctors are carrying out in-depth examinations, it will take time. Eriksen smiled with Kjaer and his Denmark teammates. He was happy because he understood how much love is around,” Schoots said.

Eriksen also spoke to his Denmark teammates and captain Simon Kjær and thanked them. He joked with them, saying they are in worse shape than him in hospital.

“Messages have reached him from all over the world. And he was particularly impressed by those of the Inter teammates and fans. Christian doesn’t give up. He and his family want their thanks to everyone,” Schoots added.

On Sunday, Denmark Football Association released a statement saying he is in stable condition. “This morning, we have spoken to Christian Eriksen, who has sent his greetings to his teammates. His condition is stable and he continues to be hospitalised for further examination,” the DFA said in a statement.

“He collapsed and got help and heart treatment on the field. He was fortunately awake when he left the stadium. We have been in contact with him, and the players have spoken with Christian. That’s the good news. He is doing well and they are playing the match for Christian,” Danish FU (Football Union) director of football Peter Moller told DR as reported by Goal.

While the Group B clash was suspended, Eriksen later Facetime his teammates and asked to go ahead with the match.

Following that, UEFA declared

• Following the request made by players of both teams, UEFA has agreed to restart the match between Denmark and Finland tonight at 20:30 CET.

• The last four minutes of the first-half will be played, there will then be a 5-minute half-time break followed by the second half.

Christian Eriksen Health Update: The match resumed with players from both sides distraught with the incident. Finland stunned Denmark 1-0 but the match was overshadowed by Eriksen’s health. Denmark’s team doctor Martin Boesen told the media at the post-match press conference that they managed to get him back on the field.

“We were called on the pitch when Christian fell down, I didn’t see myself but it was pretty clear he was unconscious. When I get to him, he’s on his side. He is breathing and I can see pulse but suddenly that changes, and as everyone saw we started giving him CPR,” Boesen said.

“The help came really, really fast from the medical team and the rest of the staff, and with their cooperation, we did what we did to do. We managed to get Christan back,” he added.
