In the fifth round of the Norway Chess tournament on Saturday, R Praggnanandhaa of India shocked world-ranked 2 Fabiano Caruana. Praggnanandhaa had beaten world no. 1 Magnus Carlsen just a few days ago. This was Praggnanandhaa’s first-ever victory over both Caruana and Magnus Carlsen in classic chess. Praggnanandhaa moving from strength to strength
Magnus Carlsen, the five-time world champion, was humbled by the chess prodigy in Round 3, sparking a wave of surprise throughout the chess community.
He continued his success by securing another impressive win in Round 5, this time defeating world No. 2 Fabiano Caruana. These back-to-back victories against top players solidified his reputation as a young talent in the game and elevated him into the top 10 of the International Chess Federation’s world rankings.

Praggna’s sister on a roll too
In the fifth round, Vaishali, sister of Praggnanandhaa, maintained her lead by controlling China’s Lei Tingjie. At 22 years old, she is currently leading the tournament, with Koneru Humpy from India in fifth place after losing to World Champion Ju Wenjun of China, who has won all five of her matches in the tournament.
