Why is Atletico Madrid holding onto Joao Felix?
Atletico Madrid 127 million to Benfica in 2019 to secure the service of Portuguese international. However, the club is keeping hold of him since they will have more suitors in the future if his performance improves. However if the 23-year-old fails to perform well, then the price will be lower. However, the player himself wants to leave the club due to his difference with manager Diego Simeone.
Felix in an interview with Spanish newspaper AS had said, “I had been looking for a change of scenery for some time because it was difficult for me to get used to the way of playing. I left because my head was full of the fact I was trying and not being able to. It had to be in this transfer window and I think it has been good for Atletico and for me too.”
He further went onto reveal that Simeone’s idea was to ‘suffer’ on the pitch. He said “He is a very good coach. He has his way of understanding and seeing football that others don’t have. That’s good for some and bad for others. It depends on each person. It’s basically to suffer on the pitch. It is to be suffering, have an opportunity and score it. That’s his way of competing. It’s not bad but it’s different to other coaches.”
