Eya and Sarra, became the youngest female Olympians at Tokyo after they participated in the 49er FX event at the Olympics last year. They represented Tunisia and finished in the 21st place in the event.
After their Tokyo performance, the sisters were looking forward to compete in many more Olympics in future. During one of their practice sessions on Sunday, strong winds at the sea made their boat to capsize. While Eya drowned and lost her life Sarra is believed to have survived the tragedy.

The death was first reported by Tunisian Suhail Khmira who posted a tribute on his Twitter account. “Eya Guezguez, 16, Tunisian Olympic Windsurfer, has passed away today after an accident at practice. Eya, along with her twin, Sarra, were the Youngest female athletes at the #Tokyo2020 Olympics… May she Rest In Peace,” he wrote in his post.
The two sisters were born in March 2005 and they just celebrated their 17th birthday last month.
