WTA Finals: 4 big players to watch out for – After a roller-coaster WTA Tour season, we are heading to the WTA Finals. The women’s showpiece event is all set to roll from November 10. The tournament might have missed big names like World No.1 Ash Barty, Naomi Osaka and Serena Williams but tennis fans should not worry. 1. Barbora Krejcikova (World No.3):

  • Barbora Krejcikova will play her maiden WTA Finals of her career.
  • The 25-year-old qualified for the tournament after winning her maiden Grand Slam title at French Open and her consistency throughout the season.
  • Barbora Krejcikova is the only Grand winner of the season to play WTA Finals this year.
  • Ahead of the year-end tournament, she has played 16 tournaments, out of which she won 3, including a French Open title, and earned a total of 4,518 points.
  • She was drawn in the Group Teotihuacan alongside Karolina Pliskova, Gabrine Muguruza and Annett Kontaveit.
  • Pliskova and Muguruza will be Krejcikova’s top challengers.

2. Iga Swiatek (World No. 6):

  • Iga Swiatek became the first women’s tennis player born in the 21st century to qualify for the WTA Finals.
  • The 20-year-old was the defending champion of the French Open this year, but her title defense came to an end after losing to Maria Sakkari of Greece in the quarterfinals.
  • Iga Swiatek has played 14 tournaments and won two titles and earned a total of 3,226 points ahead of the year-end tournament.
  • The Polish tennis star was drawn in Group Chinchen Itza alongside Aryna Sabalenka, Maria Sakkari and Paula Badosa.
  • Iga Swiatek will face the challenge of Maria Sakkari, who defeated her twice in this season.

  • Ahead of the year-end tournament, Karolina Pliskova has played 17 tournaments this season but won none.
  • However, she has played three finals, including Wimbledon Championships.
  • She has earned a total of 4,036 points so far this season.
  • Karolina Pliskova was a three-time semifinalist of WTA Finals in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
  • This year, she was drawn alongside Barbora Krejcikova, Gabrine Muguruza and Annett Kontaveit in Group Teotihuacan.

  • Aryna Sabalenka shot to fame when she defeated World No.1 Ashleigh Barty at Madrid Open to claim the biggest title of her career.
