The WFI ad-hoc committee on Friday announced the selection trials for the Olympics Qualifiers and the Asian Championships, as per a report in the Hindustan Times. The trials for both will be held on March 10 and 11 for all categories, in men and women sections.
While the women’s trials will be held at NIS Patiala, the men’s freestyle and Greco-Roman events will be held at SAI Sonipar, the report further said.
“The winner of the trials in the Olympic weight category will get to represent India in upcoming Olympic qualifiers like the Asian Olympic Qualifiers (April 19-21) and World Olympic Qualifiers (May 9-12). The winners in non-Olympic weight categories will represent India in the Senior Asian Championships (April 11-16). The runners-up in Olympic weight categories at the trials will represent India at the Senior Asian Championships,” Bajwa said.
For now, India has secured only one Olympic quota, through Antim Panghal’s World Championship bronze in the women’s 53 kg category. Meanwhile, both the tournaments will be held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
