World Athletics Day 10 Live: World Athletics Championships: Tobi Amusan registered a new world record in the women’s 100m hurdles during the semifinals of the World Athletics Championships, clocking 12.12. In the final, she registered an even better timing of 12.06, but it is not a world record due to 2.5m/sec tailwind. However, she did walk away with the gold. Jakob Ingebrigtsen secured gold in 5000m men’s final with an impressive run of 13:09.24 to end the Worlds on a high. In the women’s long jump final, Malaika Mihambo collected the gold with a jump of 7.12. Follow World Athletics Live updates with InsideSport.IN

It was very unique for the world record to be broken in the heats with athletes not going full tilt. However, Tobi Amusan had some other ideas. She broke the world record in the fifth of the three semifinals. The last record was held by Kendra Harrison in the 2016, clocking 12.20.

Hence, it came as no surprise when all eyes were on her during the finals. She seem to have run the race even more faster in the medal round as the timings reflected. However, that record did not count with the tailwind being 1.5m/s. At the end of the day, she will be happy to walk away with the gold and a world record against her name.

One of the other major highlight of the day was the women’s long jump final. There were lot of talks on how Malaika Mihambo was the favourite for gold. Though she did finish with gold with a jump of 7.12, it was not a smooth sailing.

In the initial phases, she was not on her stride. It was only from her third jump, she gained confidence with a jump of 6.98. She followed that with 7.09 to take lead in her next jump, which was enough for a medal. But she did even better in the final attempt at 7.12 to take home the gold in style.

In the men’s 5000m final, it was Jakob Ingebrigsten, who came up with a splendid run in the men’s 5000m to walk away with the elusive gold, clocking 13:09.24. With it, the Norwegian has ended the campaign in fine style. He had also won the 1500m silver.

Jacob Krop won the silver on Sunday with 13:09.98 while it is Uganda’s Oscar Chelimo, who finished third with a timing of 13.10.20 to win bronze. It was his season’s best as well. However, defending champion Muktar Edris failed to deliver, finishing 13th in the final.
