Shields, a two-time Olympic gold medalist and three-division undisputed champion, has had an impressive career so far with a record of 14-0 and 2 KOs. She most recently scored a shutout win against Maricela Cornejo on June 3, after her original opponent Hanna Gabriels was forced to withdraw due to a failed drug test.
The 28-year-old Flint, Michigan native has also been named the 2022 Female Fighter of the Year by the Boxing Writers Association of America, an honor she previously won in 2018. Shields’ dominance in the ring has made her one of the most recognizable and respected figures in women’s boxing.
Meanwhile, Gervonta Davis, who was also nominated for the award, is currently serving a house arrest.
The ESPY Awards, which are often referred to as the Oscars of sports, honor the best athletes and moments in sports each year. Previous winners of the “Best Boxer” award include Tyson Fury, who won in both 2021 and 2022.
Shields’ victory in the category is a testament to her hard work, dedication, and skill in the sport of boxing. With more fights and victories surely on the horizon, it’s clear that Shields is a force to be reckoned with in the world of boxing.
