The Indian women’s hockey team has kicked off their title defence in the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy with a superb 4-0 victory over Malaysia. Talking about the points table, with a win India is currently at number-2.
This year’s tournament is being held at the Rajgir Sports Complex in Bihar, featuring six teams: Thailand, Malaysia, China, Japan, Korea, and hosts India. India, who clinched the championship last year in Ranchi, aims to secure the title once again in front of their home crowd.
According to the tournament structure, the top four teams from the pool stage will advance to the semi-finals, with the winners facing off in the final for the championship.
China on top after thrashing Thailand
China leads the standings with a strong start, winning their first match against Thailand with a surprising score of 15-0, securing a goal difference of +15, giving them the top spot with 3 points. India follows closely in second place, also with a win and 3 points, but with a goal difference of +4 after their 4-0 victory over Malaysia. Japan and Korea are currently at the third and fourth spots, respectively, each earning 1 point from a drawn match and holding a neutral goal difference.
Malaysia and Thailand are yet to earn any points, having lost their opening matches, with Thailand at the bottom of the table due to a significant goal deficit of -15.
Day-1 Matches update
On Day 1 of the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy, there were some exciting results. India started strong by beating Malaysia 4-0, earning 3 points and moving up in the standings.
