Nadal was locked in a titanic battle with Taylor Fritz which the Spaniard won in the tie-breaker of the fifth set. However, midway through the game, Nadal was injured. He experienced pain in his abdomen where it was later revealed that he has a 7mm cut on his abdomen. Nadal took a medical break and then went on to win the game against Fritz.
Controversy arose when Fabio Fognini took to social media where he took a dig at Nadal. He apparently underlined the word ‘injured’ and then went on to add “For sure… 4h20. Guys stop believe in what you read PLEASE!”
Tennis fans are aware of the long rivalry between the two players. The Italian has a poor record in head-to-head clashes against Nadal. He has won just 4 games against the Spaniard but has lost 13 times.
