Novak Djokovic Boycott Wimbledon? Pilic believes Djokovic and a number of players will boycott the tournament this year.
The UK Government’s decision has shut doors on Russian and Belarusian players. World No.2 & US Open champion Daniil Medvedev, Women’s World No.4 Aryna Sabalenka, Andy Rublev and various others will not be in action at Wimbledon this year.
Djokovic himself has voiced concerns against the decision.
Speaking at the Serbian Open, Djokovic felt that the invasion isn’t the athletes’ fault.
“Ordinary people always suffer – we’ve had lots of wars in the Balkans. That being said, I cannot support the Wimbledon decision. It’s not the athletes’ fault,” he said.
“I will always condemn war, I will never support war being myself a child of war. I know how much emotional trauma it leaves. In Serbia we all know what happened in 1999. In the Balkans, we have had many wars in recent history. However, I cannot support the decision of Wimbledon, I think it is crazy. When politics interferes with sport, the result is not good,” he added.
