Why did Rahul Chaudhari announce his retirement from Pro Kabaddi?

Over 150 games, a gold medal, and countless memories, Rahul Chaudhari has gracefully retired from PKL. But why this sudden retirement?

Rahul Chaudhari, often referred to as the “poster boy” of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL), has said goodbye to the league after providing fans with blockbuster raiding entertainment. He debuted in 2014 for the Telugu Titans and quickly made a name for himself, not only in the PKL but also for the Indian national team. In 2016, he played a crucial role in India’s gold medal triumph at the Kabaddi World Cup. Also he led the Uttar Pradesh team to a Gold medal victory at the National Kabaddi Championship in 2015. But now the question is after doing all of this, why did he suddenly say goodbye to the game?

Throughout his career, he served teams like the Telugu Titans, Tamil Thalaivas, Puneri Paltan, and eventually led Jaipur Pink Panthers to victory in Season 9. But as mentioned, why sudden retirement? Let’s speculate on a few reasons for his sudden retirement, which shocked his fans after the news broke.

Rahul Chaudhari retirement

One of the main reasons for Rahul Chaudhari’s retirement, as indicated in his Instagram post, is his belief that it’s time for the next generation of players to take over. At 31 years old, he feels that as the sport evolves day by day, the younger players are better equipped to handle these changes.

However, this decision might also be influenced by a significant dip in his form. Until Season 7, Rahul was performing consistently well, but things started to change in Season 8. He played only 7 games for the Jaipur Pink Panthers and struggled to make an impact, with a record that didn’t live up to his previous performances. Although he played 21 games in Season 9, his form continued to decline, making it difficult for him to recapture the attention he once commanded. Season 10 seemed to be the final nail in the coffin, as his inconsistency persisted, ultimately leading to his decision to retire.

Rahul Chaudhari retirement reason

If we look at his history, before Season 11, Rahul Chaudhari had already hinted that Season 10 might be his last. Failing to attract bidders pushed his decision to retire forward. However, the legacy he built is undeniable, and it’s possible that in PKL 2024, we may see him take on a new role. Whether he embraces a new challenge or steps away from the spotlight remains to be seen.
