Why Did AEW Release CM Punk? Full Report Revealed

According to AEW, they have decided to release wrestler CM Punk after a thorough investigation of what happened during AEW All In London

CM Punk has been released from the AEW, per reports. The former WWE superstar was already suspended after his backstage altercation with Jack Perry during AEW All In London.

Now it seems that Tony Khan and his wrestling promotion have decided to move on without the ‘Second City Saviour’.

AEW took to social media and explained the split up between them and CM Punk. Here’s what they stated:

“All Elite Wrestling (AEW) has terminated the wrestler and employment agreements between Phillip Brooks (CM Punk) and AEW with cause, effective immediately. The termination was confirmed today by Tony Khan, CEO, General Manager, and Head of Creative of AEW.”

“The termination follows a weeklong internal investigation of an incident occurring back stage at AEW — All In London on Sunday, August 27. Following the investigation, the AEW Discipline Committee met and later convened with outside legal counsel before making a unanimous recommendation to Khan that CM Punk be terminated with cause.”

It was reported that AEW representatives didn’t interact with CM Punk after their recent event in London. They didn’t even send a car for the wrestling elite and Punk had to arrange his own way back under the roof.

Although CM Punk’s Merchandise has reportedly been the most purchased item from AEW merch, the real-life relation between the promotion and the star faded. Per several viewers, CM Punk didn’t want to continue with AEW after the fallout in London. It appears that AEW had mutual feelings towards Punk.

What’s Next For CM Punk?

44-year-old CM Punk is one of the most decorated wrestlers in the world. He has had a successful tenure in WWE, where he held the world championship on several occasions. He earned a global fanbase during that period.

That said, he had a disastrous transition from pro wrestling to the MMA world. Punk miserably failed and got finished in both the UFC fights he ever competed in before getting cut off from the roster. He returned to pro-wrestling by joining hands with AEW and once again became a title holder.

On his last appearance in All Out (London), Punk successfully defended his Real World’s Championship against Samoa Joe. But what happened afterward didn’t turn out well for his career with AEW
