Abhinav Bindra engraved his name in the record books in the Chinese capital by becoming the first Indian to win an individual gold medal.
In 2008 Beijing Olympics, when India was desperately looking to make a mark in individual events, Bindra’s precise shooting skills earned India a gold medal. He competed in the 10-meter air rifle event, where he convincingly clinched the title. First, in the qualification round, he scored 596 points, and then in the finals, he scored 104.5 points. The final score is the combination of both rounds, and with this, he secured the gold for India.
