A urine sample was taken on July 12 by testers hired through Drug-Free Sport, and the results of the analysis revealed the presence of the illegal substance. The test report states that the lab received the material for testing on July 21. On August 10, the results were announced, stating that “Mesterolone metabolite (and) 3-hydroxy-5-androstan-17-one (Androsterone) detected” had been found in the sample that had been taken and was considered to be “in-competition.”

The subject has the option to test the “B” sample or contest the chain of custody, as is the case with all drug tests. It is still unknown if those actions will be performed in this case.

Rafael announced on social media that Baumgardner had tested positive for the steroid Mesterolone, claiming several sources and obtaining a copy of the positive test.

As per the tweet it stated, “ According to @DanRafael1, Alycia Baumgardner tested positive for the banned steroid Mesterolone in a urine test three days prior to her last fight.”

Even more damaging was the fact that the positive test discovered by Drug-Free Sport was conducted exactly three days before Baumgardner attempted to defend her titles and ultimately defeated Christine Linardatou by decision. On July 15 in Detroit, that fight served as the main event of the Matchroom Boxing card. Rafael also claims that the positive test results were not disclosed until August 10—a full four weeks after the title battle.
