WFI ad-hoc panel announces Senior National Championship to take place in February

WFI ad-hoc panel announces dates for Senior National Championship to take place in Jaipur in February

The senior national championship in wrestling is set to held at the Railway Stadium in Ganpati Nagar from 2nd to 5th February. The announcement was made by the ad-hoc committee that is currently governing the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). The championship will feature competitions across free style, Greco Roman and the Women’s categories.

The WFI is currently governed by the ad-hoc panel that is headed by Bhupinder Singh Bajwa. Joining Bajwa is Manjusha Kanwar and MM Somaya. The ad-hoc has been advised to look after the day-to-day activities of the WFI.

The press released which gave notice of the senior national championship claimed that ‘all correspondence should be done with ad-hoc panel’. This essentially means that no contact should be made with the members of the Federation that has been suspended.

The WFI has been suspended by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). This comes after the WFI body which was newly elected, was suspended by the Sports Ministry. The WFI has been blamed for making decisions that violates it’s own constitutions.

The main reason for the suspension is due to the step taken by Sanjay Singh. Singh is the new elected head of WFI who is also a close abide of ex President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Sanjay Singh after his election announced that the U15 and U20 trials would be held before 2023 ends which violates the proceedings as to how the decision was taken.
