Right at the start of the Asian Games, Indian forward Rahul KP has given the nation something to cheer about. The 23-year-old forward from Kerala not only equalized for India 1-1 in the opening game against China but gave a decent account of himself, as to what he is capable of achieving.
Just before the half-time whistle, Rahul KP’s solo run brought the team back into the match. The Kerala Blasters player sprinted down the right touchline for a good 30m, with no other Indian player in sight. With just one Chinese defender to beat, he ran past the latter and slammed the ball between the goalkeeper and his near-post. The Chinese goalkeeper could hardly move as the ball bounced into the net.
Playing in the Asian Games after a gap of nine years, India showed early nerves and conceded a goal early to Gao Tianyi. The Indians conceded in the 17th minute itself after the defense line failed to clear a corner kick.
