On Sunday, Tennis royalty met British royalty at Wimbledon. Roger Federer and the Princess of Wales took part in the Wimbledon ball boys and girls training and even played a game of doubles. Kate Middleton even managed to score a point against the eight-time Wimbledon champion, hitting a passing shot while Federer was standing at the net.
“I think it was on the line. Amazing,” Federer exclaimed in a video released by Wimbledon on their social media accounts. Federer was seen laughing and giving a thumbs up to the Princess, applauding her forehand passing shot.
As a royal patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC), the Princess is a regular at Wimbledon every year and is always present for the Women’s singles finals.

After playing, Federer and Kate assumed the roles of ball boy and girl while the ball kids played. Kate even asked the 20-time Grand Slam champion for some tips on her serve, to which the tennis legend replied, “Looked good.”
Roger Federer, who retired from professional tennis last year, was a ball kid as a child in his home tournament, Swiss Indoors Basel, and said it was a return to his childhood roots.
“This is proper practice, I’m really impressed,” Federer said during one of their drills as they rolled balls and ran across the court.
The princess also took an impressive one-handed catch but was told by Federer that ball kids aren’t allowed to catch the ball directly and must wait for the ball to stop before they retrieve it.
“You’re meant to let it bounce and then get it,” said the ball girl standing next to the Princess and instructing her. “But good catch.”
