Novak Djokovic on Thursday appeared in a seldom-seen avatar at the Rod Laver Arena. Djokovic, was seen with a bat instead of a racquet as the 24-time Grand Slam champion tried his hand out at cricket.
Djokovic is currently hosting an event on Rod Laver Arena as part of Opening Week of the 2024 Australian Open (14-28 January) called Novak Djokovic and Friends which has seen the 24-time Grand Slam champion try out different sports.
What Happened?
As part of the event, Djokovic tried his hand out at cricket. However, it did not quite go as planned. In a video released by Australian Open’s X (previously Twitter) channel, Novak is seen playing one of the most popular sports in Australia. Although, it will be safe to say he is not as adept with a bat on his hand compared to a racquet.
In the video, Djokovic missed the first ball he faced. Djokovic swung his bat hard, but the ball moved right past his outside edge. Djokovic, who is known for his funny side, brought a racquet out on the next ball. He switched the bat with his racquet while the bowler was in the middle of his run up, and smashed the ball to the spectators watching on the show.
