Watch: Novak Djokovic celebrates New Year’s eve with packed crowd in Perth

While Djokovic being at his best is nothing new, he made it even more special for the huge crowd that turned out to watch the 24-time Grand Slam winner play.

Tennis star Novak Djokovic found a perfect way and company to celebrate New Year’s eve, by having a countdown with a jam-packed Tennis Arena in Perth. Djokovic is in Australia at the moment representing Serbia in the United Cup.

Djokovic and Olga Danilovic had a doubles rubber to take care of before new year’s eve against China’s Zhang Zhizhen and Zheng Quinwen. It was a crucial rubber, and Djokovic aced the match as usual help Serbia win the tie 2-1.

While Djokovic being at his best is nothing new, he made it even more special for the huge crowd that turned out to watch the 24-time Grand Slam winner play.

With Djokovic and Danilovic winning the thrilling match 6-4, 1-6, 10/6 in a tie that lasted almost one and a half hours, Djokovic was in a jovial mood. The match ended just before midnight, and Djokovic asked the crowd to stay back so they could usher in the new year together.

The crowd obliged, chanting Djokovic’s name before the countdown for the new year began. Djokovic, true to his nature, led the countdown with the whole crowd participating. As the new year descended, Djokovic hugged his teammates.

It was true moment of joy for the spectators that came to watch Djokovic in action. Talking about the match, Djokovic said heaped praises on China for producing such a tough encounter.

“It was a very tough match against a team, China, that is in form. They won their first tie 3-0 and they are both brilliant players in singles and doubles. We managed to turn it around. Olga hung in there, she lifted her spirits and she was really good in the tie-break,” Djokovic said.
